Bulalaka village, nestled in Sala Parish, Tirinyi sub-county of Kibuku District, eastern Uganda, finds itself in a state of shock and fear after an unknown assailant brutally hacked to death Twaha Namwoyo, 38, and his wife, Nasim Katooko, 27. Their lifeless bodies, bearing multiple deep cuts, were discovered in a pool of blood within their own compound.
Local authorities and residents are now grappling with the unsettling mystery surrounding the motive behind this heinous crime, as the police launch a relentless hunt for the perpetrators who remain at large. Samuel Semewo, the North Bukedi Regional Police Spokesperson, voiced concern over the resurgence of machete attacks in the region, which has instilled widespread panic among the populace.
Initial reports indicate that the police were alerted to the scene by Charles Namba, a district councilor from Tirinyi Sub County. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers were confronted with the grisly sight of two lives violently taken. A blood-stained axe and two knives recovered from the scene now serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
SP Semewo confirmed that witness statements have been collected, and the bodies of the victims have been transferred to Mbale Regional Hospital for postmortem examination by the police surgeon.
Amidst the palpable fear gripping the community, residents are pleading for heightened security measures, including increased patrols and enhanced community policing efforts. Peter Mwigo, a concerned resident, voiced apprehension over the continued absence of arrests and the looming uncertainty of potential targets for the assailants.
Samuel Musiho, the Kibuku Resident District Commissioner and chairperson of the district security committee, condemned the barbaric act, denouncing it as an affront to humanity.
