In a heartwarming celebration, two mothers who were the first to give birth at the newly inaugurated Bukedea Teaching Hospital, under the leadership of Speaker Annet Among Anita, have received special rewards. The hospital, officially opened on January 15, 2024, welcomed its first inpatients and outpatients.

Sharon Atai, a native of Kotiok parish in Kabarwa Sub County, Bukedea district, delivered a baby girl, while Debora Apolot from Kakere in the Kocheka sub-county gave birth to a baby boy. Both mothers were presented with a thoughtful package containing one bar of white soap, a basin, and a jerrican, all given to them at no cost.

Expressing her surprise and gratitude, Ms. Atai shared, “I never expected this because it’s my first time in this hospital. I have delivered at no cost, and I was also given the mama kit.”

Siporah Akol, Speaker Among’s personal assistant, shared that the Anita Foundation, under the umbrella of Speaker Among, is set to reward the first one hundred expectant mothers who give birth at Anita’s hospital. This initiative aligns with the commitment to provide free maternity services to all women in Bukedea, as directed by the Speaker. Additional items were delivered to support mothers after childbirth.

Agnes Mugena, the administrator of Bukedea Teaching Hospital, reported that 81 expectant mothers have already enrolled in the program, with two having successfully given birth. As the hospital strives to make a positive impact on maternal healthcare, the reward initiative symbolizes a promising start for both the hospital and the community it serves.
